EveryThing
Kindle
EveryThing Kindle offers Kindle devices,
Kindle accessories and reading apps through Amazon.com. You will find a
review of the Kindle Fire and Kindle Touch along with links to
best sellers eBooks, eMagazines, eNewspapers and EBook accessories and apps.
Kindle Devices
Kindle Devices are a standalone e-reader that offers 50% better contrast,
choice of different fonts to improve readability. You can start reading your
eBook within 60
seconds, with no computer required.
Below you will find the details about the Kindle Touch and the Kindle Fire
to of the most used E-readers. I've given you information about the unit.
Kindle Touch
Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display - includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers
- Slightly lighter than the K3. It is 8% lighter (7.5 ounces) and has an 11% smaller body (6.8" x 4.7" x 0.40").
- Real Page Numbers-The KT displays the actual page number regardless of what zoom setting you have it on.
- Book Lending-Amazon allows book lending to other for up to 14 days. Note: Book has to be eligible for this feature
- Display-Display is monochrome, giving very crisp black and white images.
- If your main purpose is to read, I recommend the Kindle Touch over the Kindle Fire.
- WI-Fi
- If you don't have wireless you can transfer books through the USB.
- Be sure to check out the Kindle with Special Offers-the offers are fairly useful and can pay for themselves.
- Battery life-2 months.
- Note: if you add a lighted cover, your battery life may be a less than the 2 months because the cover draws power from the device.
- Storage-4 GB. Can hold roughly 3000 books.
- Touch Feature- The touch interface is very intuitive, allowing you to turn pages, search, and look for books. The embedded dictionary is a nice feature. With the embedded dictionary, all you need to do to check a word definition is to touch the word and hold it for a few seconds (this lets the Touch know you do not want to turn a page) and you will get you
definition.
Turning pages is intuitive. If you want to turn a page you will need only to
tap the right-hand side of the screen. To move the page back, you need only to
tap the left-hand side of the screen. If you are use to some of the older
units, you may find a little retraining is necessary.
- Keyboard- The keyboard is well designed and the buttons are spaced adequately.
- Note: the new Kindle does not come with a power adapter
Kindle Fire
Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi
The Kindle Fire offers both advantages and disadvantages.
Kindle Fire Advantages
- Battery Life-8 hours.
- Holds up to 3500 ebooks
- Wi-Fi Included-It's set up is fast and easy.
- Fast downlowads
- Web browsing is fast
- Very portable and easier to hold
- 20% faster page turns
- PDF Reader built in - includes dictionary lookup, notes, highlights.
- Weighs 8.5 ounces, which is equivalent to weighing less than a paperback.
- Amazon Cloud Drive- Amazon offers the Amazon Cloud Drive. With the Cloud Drive you get 5GB of free online storage to store anything you want, of which you can
access it from anywhere. What is the Cloud? The Cloud is a term used to indicate that the memory space is used by off site servers and it is not dependent upon the memory that resides on your computer. Being "in the Cloud" allows you to have smaller, faster, and more mobile devices that can stream video, music and books.
- Fonts-The fonts are clearer and crisper than past models
Kindle Fire Disadvantages
- Not really a true reader, it is more of a customized Android tablet with a backlit touchscreen.
- Power Button location is a nuisance. Beecause of it's location, you have to be careful not to bump it, or you'll find yourself turning the thing off.
- Netflix and Pandora are not preinstalled. However, you can download them from the Amazon's Appstore because they are classified as free downloads.
- There are no Google apps available at the the Appstore currently.
- If you want to install apps from other sources, it is possible but difficult. Some skill is required.
- You can password protect your Fire, however, if someone does get entry into the unit it does not stop them from making purchases. Such as a child. Thus, improvement of parental controls should
be addressed.
- No Micro-USB transfer cable included with it. I have to venture to say that Amazon, that Amazon wants to discourage the transferring of your own files to the device.
If you're looking to use it for just reading books, you may be disappointed, I would suggest using
the Kindle Touch instead. Why? The Kindle Fire is difficult to read in bright sunlight,
does not support real page numbers, thus, you have to use
the location feature.
However, if you want to stream music, video and books (and not bothered by no
real page number support or reading difficultly in bright light), the Kindle Fire may be the unit you are looking for.
And remember, since this is just the first version of the unit that Amazon has made available. I would
expect that there will be many fixes to be included in the next version.
In addition, if you are planning to get most of your content from Amazon and you have a Prime membership or plan
on getting a Prime membership, this device is good for the money you have to pay.
