FINDING A WEB HOST
You may be wondering if it is possible to find a quality web host that offers a reasonable price
while still maintaining
good to excellent customer service? If you're not, you should. And the answer to the
question is yes, it is possible to find a web host that's reasonable. In
fact, it may include more features then you will ever use.
However, I would suggest that you consider your current needs and your
needs five years down the road. If the web hosting service cannot grow
with your needs-it may be wise to look elsewhere.
Web Host Advice
Yes, many website hosting companies do give you cheap rates, however you should also look
at the fine print. Why? You have to ask yourself- "Is that low
price with a yearly contract, a 2 year contract or maybe a 5 year
contract." And-do you have to pay it all upfront for the full
2 or 5 years. Or....
You may want to only pay on a monthly basis and be able to cancel when
you want. Which some web hosts offer, such as HostGator, but you're
probably pay the price for that privilege.
Translated, know what the web hosting service you're going with will
support and how much you have to pay upfront. And if the price you
are paying is a "promo" price, ask what the regular price is,
if it is not listed.
Most people are broad-sided by the cost, or the fact that the web host is
not giving them what they expected.
Never assume, they are going to offer anything for free or within a
program. Look at their website and see what they offer, and if you don't
see something listed, or you have questions, ASK.
For instance, do they offer streaming audio/video
on all their different web hosting offerings? Or do they offer
streaming audio/video at all? By asking, and
leaving nothing to the imagination, you can lessen surprises.
Matching your needs to the web host capabilities.
What
do I mean? If you are going to have a simple HTML website then you can
assume you will only make simple demands on the hosting service. However, if you are going to have a more interactive site, with forums,
discussion groups, or you get large bursts of traffic, you will need a
hosting service that can handle your needs upfront.
One additional thought, there are many web hosting services you can
choose from, I've found some to be good services, and have heard some
good comments about many...but, I get a little anxious when I have to search for their pricing. That
being said....
A good web hosting service should accomplish these basic needs:
Ease of use, rarely down, good support that you can reach at
all times, and pricing not hidden in the abyss of their site.
Below you'll find several examples of reasonable web hosting
services, but
trust me, there are many, many other web hosting services that are
available. I have not found anyone that has been 100% pleased with any
web hosting service, which means, do your research, and go with the best
that you can afford.

HostGator is a dependable web hosting service, offering you quality service. Which
means they answer emails, phone calls, responds to live chat. They do not have many bells and whistles, or any fancy
marketing ploys, they just offer plain quality service.
They also offer other services. Such as:
- Web Design
- Merchant Services
- SSL Certificates

Cons: Not many extra features, no Web 2.0 features
Pros: Solid web hosting service, with good customer service

FatCow is one of many web hosting services going green. What does that mean?
They are completely powered by wind energy.
Their "HeiferCratic Oath" is to promise their customers
quality customer service. In face, if the “Moo Crew” hasn’t
kept this promise to you, you could even get a month of hosting free!
The HeiferCratic Oath of FatCow goes on to say, that they will
do their best to answer any calls within two minutes, and they’ll
do that without outsourcing any call centers outside of North America.
You’ll also get a (somewhat) personalized phone call within a week of registration welcoming you to their service!
Con
1) I have one problem when entering into
the control panel-and it is advertising. They try to advertise to their paying customers. My personal opinion, this type
of advertising is better served for non-paying customers.
2) For those sites wanting to move their site to FatCow-think again.
Though many services offer this to their customers, FatCow does not.
Pro
The pro to using FatCow is, they have great customer service, eco-friendly, cheap.

Pros: Their sitebuilder is simple and easy to use. Excellent customer service.
Cons: There simplicity-offers some limitations.
Yahoo Business Web Hosting has carved out a nice niche in the web hosting arena. And that is,
offering small business owners an opportunity to get a website online, even if they (customer) has no knowledge of
how to get started. Yahoo guides you through the process.
