Buying Domain Names
By Vickie J. Scanlon
Buying domain names can be profitable. Your first
thought is that, sure, it you work hard on your website you can turn a good
profit. Though true, there are other methods to building a business online. Some
individuals are putting their expertise to great advantage by:
1. buying and reselling the domain name
2. set up a website to flip
Flipping a Website-what is it?
Flipping a website is the buying and selling of a website for profit. It's
similar to that of flipping houses, except the difference is the outlay--it's
not that steep-in some cases. Though some people
are making a business out of flipping websites -- they also have to assume
the risk.
What do you need?
1) Enough money in your pockets to cover many facets of assuming a website,
besides the purchase of the website itself.
2) Skill and knowledge to know what needs to be improved on the
website and the capabilities of making those changes to produce a profitable
website.
3) Nerves of steel -- if you don't have the skill.
Buying a domain name to resell
Other individuals may choose to buy a website for nothing more than the name. People in this category are looking at trends, and what the value of that trend will give them.
Just think what kind of payday you would have received if you had a
website called "blogger.com", before it became Google's blogger. Get my meaning.
Domain name - your business?
The most talked about purpose of a domain name is to create a website, to start
a business from a creative idea or passion that you may have been throwing
around in your mind for awhile. If that is the case, what must your domain name
include?
1) The domain name should include your product or
service with the url
2) Keyword specific.
Search engines favor those sites with keywords relevant to their site within the
url. Why? It makes it easier for them to classify what the site is about. If
you do a Google search on a website or blog you frequent you'll notice that the
keywords you entered will be highlighted in the title or within the
description.
As you can see, your domain name can offer a profit not only to you, but to
others who may be wanting to flip or resell websites. So choose your domain
name wisely.
