Newbie Beginnings
-A Possible Scam Away?
By Vickie J. Scanlon
Everyone has their own reasons for trying to make it online. Some do it on the pretense of expressing themselves. But many are looking for ways to make money. With me, I was looking for a way to make money online from my home. The one scam that most newbies encounter and are usually taken in by is the “Typing from your Home” scam.
When most people come online, they
think they can do some type of typing job online. If you are one of those individuals, you’re not alone-for that was my thought as well. But let me begin by saying, “Stop that thought.” And if you have found a site that offers typing with no experience necessary, then ask yourself- "How can that be?" But if that thought, which in most cases is shoved in the background does not make you stop and
think, then remember these questions before proceeding.
Does it have a nice looking site? Of course, if it looked shabby, your radar would be alerted.
Does it have a phone to contact them? Maybe. But
is there anyone at the other end?
Can you contact them by email? “Sure”, you say. Did
you try contacting them? Go ahead and try. You will
find that they are rather illusive.
Did you check the Better Business Bureau online?
(Sometimes, newbies do not. They are not seasoned yet,
to the lack of integrity or honesty of some webmasters.
This naiveté is the hardest to get a handle on. Trust me
I know.)
Before you mutter the silent words of- "But it looks like a legitimate site - I'm sure it's okay."
You have to ask yourself-is my logical mind working here, or is it my ultimate desire to make money that is driving me
into a bad situation. Most times, sad to say, it is desire.
If you go ahead and do it (as most first timers do),
you will work long, long, long hours, and get very,
very little money, if anything at all. Or they will
find reasons why they won’t pay you. Who profits?
They do.
Not all jobs are scams. But you must do your research. And-if you have to pay for a typing job- that
is the first indication that the opportunity is a scam.
To conclude, there are many different opportunities
on the Internet. Some good, some bad - so don't be quick
to grab at a quick fix opportunity. Though tempting
and hard to do, pause for a moment and ask yourself "Is
this too good to be true?" If you feel it is, then
that is your inner self telling you to back away. My
advise - listen to that inner voice.
