Your Business And Emergency Power Back Up
Systems
By Vickie J. Scanlon
With the many snow-storms and long-term electrical outages I have encountered in the last two years, I have finally enlisted the services of a Power Backup System.
What is a Power Backup System?
What is a power backup system? A power backup system is a standalone system that can help protect your computer, telephone, fax, modem and equipment
when bad weather or other unexpected conditions interrupt your electrical service.
We all know the deal when an electrical outage happens, right. If not, let me refresh your memory. You're sitting at your computer typing away, when the electricity pops off then back on. What happened to your computer? Your computer goes off, then goes back on. The file
or files that you were working on could become corrupted or lost. That's the first thing that happens. It can also cause your computer to crash.
But what is it doing behind the scenes? What do you mean, you ask? The behind the scenes that I am talking about is -what is it doing to your computer system?
Though you may not know it, these interruptions can help to reduce the life of your computer.
So, it is a very good investment for your money, and an important line of protection for your
computer and your office equipment.
What to Consider in a Computer Backup System?
When looking for a computer backup system, here are some issues to ask yourself:
1. Does it keep your equipment running for an extended length of time, to give you enough time to shut down your system. An hour + is a good measure of
time?
2. Does it adjust for both low and high voltages to safe levels- so you can
work during brown outs and over voltage situations?
3. Does it offer shutdown software so when you are away it automatically powers down your computer system
if the electricity is off for an extended amount of time?
4. Does the system fit your office needs?
Computer Backup System and Price
Prices vary from $100+ on up depending upon your needs and what you want to protect.
Is a backup system worth it? I think so. No. I know so.
