Your Website History And Google
By Vickie J. Scanlon
How do you create a history with Google. It begins with your
domain and continues with the content you put on your website. What do I mean?
Website-Trust Me
If you are a new site, you are asking the search engines to trust you on blind faith. It’s like having a complete stranger come up to you with a plea that you give him/her $100 with the payback option of –“Trust Me, I’ll pay you back”; Would you believe him? I wouldn’t. Translated, you cannot develop trust within a moment’s time-and that is true with a website.
Your website, if it has been around for a while, will have a history. This is what you want. Why? Because with a history-the search engines gain a greater degree of trust, thus, helping with quicker indexing of your pages.
What if you are a new site? You may find that your site may be slow to
be Indexed because it is new to Google and the other search engines.
Usually, you will not see a lot of progress for the first six months. It
seems like a long time, but it really isn't. During this time, which
some refer to as the "Google Sandbox" you can continue to
create quality content, and market your site.
How To Build Website Trust
If you are a new site, you will need to gain trust. How?
You need a history for both your domain/web pages. And history is gained through time by:
1. Building Quality Web Pages - Building quality web pages means,
creating content that is useful to your readers. In the past, many
people can put up content that read like a sales pitch. Was the content
lacking, yes. But the keywords that they used did bring the search
engines, and thus traffic. Is this the right way to entrust trust in
your site. No.
However, the sales pitch articles are no longer running rampant, due to new
Internet rules put in place by the government, and the every improving
algorithm. No only has Google's algorithm become more sophisticated, they are also enlisting the help of
humans to visually look over websites with questionable
content.
2. Your Back Links - Back links are links that you have on other sites.
You can place an article in an article directory, do a guest writing on
another site to increase your creditability, gain exposure, and gain
acceptance as a "expert" in your field. However, do not put
the same article on other directories. Why? Duplicate content. Let's
say you put an article on your site, and then decide to share this same
content on the article directories.
Google may deem your article, on your site, as duplicate contact. Why?
Remember, Google algorithm is not human, thus, in determining relevance,
it may could come down to simple page ranking.
Thus, if the article directory has a greater ranking, more times than
not, the higher ranking site will get the indexed article under their
website banner, and not you.
So preserve your content that you want for your website, by keeping it
on your website alone. Yes, I realize that means additional work,
because you will have to write another article for the article directory
(Which I strongly suggest). You may moan and groan
about the hard work, however, you will be rewarded with an article being
Indexed under your website's name and not on another.
3. Your Traffic - Traffic, besides that of the search engines, are
needed for any website to flourish. Without traffic, you cannot get
referrals or have the opportunity to earn income. Thus, by writing
quality content, creating back links and keeping the layout structure of
your siteas intuitively as possible, you will have success.
Sitemap and Trust
There is one more important factor that is needed to improve the indexing of your web pages. It’s called a sitemap. It’s not just the visual sitemap, but also the site map that is used specifically for and by the search engines.
The behind the scenes sitemap helps the search engine(s) to identify you, your website and
content. If you did your job well, and described your web pages
accurately, the proper placement in the search results will give you targeted traffic
to your website. If your descriptions are inaccurate to your content,
you'll get traffic, but probably no readers, or buyers for that matter. Why?
Viewers will quickly scan, and know that your content is not what they are
looking for, and will click away.
To conclude, building trust is important to your website's success. If
you concentrate on quality content and your website design is clear cut,
the search engines will find you. Your reward, traffic.
